Happy summer holidays to all parents out there currently pulling their hair out! That includes me! 😉 Hoping to make the most of the holidays, just as soon as I shift this end-of-term-itis!

I have a few things in the pipeline at the moment so before I disappear to enjoy the summer, here we go…

I just wrote an exciting piece for an erotic website called frolicme.com and it has been very well received. Watch this space, it should be out fairly soon-ish! Check out the website and keep your eyes peeled.

The first 5* reviews of Unleash have started to come in…

5.0 out of 5 stars The petals fall on this fabulous, fast paced trilogy!, 19 July 2015
This review is from: Unleash (Sub Rosa Trilogy Book 3) (Kindle Edition)
The concluding novel in the Sub Rosa trilogy grabs you from the very first page and does not let up until you’ve read the final word. This book is from the perspective of Kayla, Chloe’s best friend and a character that has had a turbulent past, closed off to the notion that love could be her’s. But as she loses her heart to another flawed character they are able to start to mend. Coupled with this super, sexy love story is the continuing way that Claudia is trying to control their lives in her own evil way!
Will love conquer all, will Claudia gets what she deserves? All I can say is that the twists and turns of this plot will keep you turning the page long into the night. It is fast paced, beautifully written and you really feel like you are emersed in the characters lives. Towards the end I wanted to slow down, savour my final encounter with Chloe, Cai and Kayla. I didn’t want to say goodbye.
These three books are so worth reading and now you can do it without the wait in between. They will leave you breathless so don’t wait to buy, grab them now and fall in love!
5.0 out of 5 stars Unleash the secrets 22 July 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
Unleash is the third instalment of the Sub Rosa series, so far the series has been filled with mystery and suspense and this final instalment is no different.

Book three brings Kayla Tate to the forefront, delving into her background and relationships. Kayla has featured in the two previous books as Chloe’s best friend, she has supported Chloe through the trials and tribulations of her relationship with Cai Matthews but it turns out she is more involved in the mystery than we realised.

Kayla is a strong and feisty woman, having a troubled past has made her the woman that she is today. Whilst following Kayla’s budding relationship the ever present Claudia Matthews weaves her secrets and lies in everyone’s lives. Is Kayla strong enough to unleash the lies and finally solve the mystery?

This is a fast paced book, and the author has done the story justice, how she was able to keep on top of the web of lies I have no ideas but I was gripped!

This series has had me in suspense and the ending is perfect! I have to re-read this series to see if I have missed anything, or if the truth is hidden within the pages.

This is a sexy, mystery that you will not want to put down!

Note From the Author

The Sub Rosa Trilogy has been a part of my life for almost eighteen months but last summer when I finished Book One, Unbind, I wasn’t sure I had the energy or the inclination to write more in the series. This almost did not happen. It was always in the back of my mind that the series could be a trilogy but for some reason, I was hesitant to make it so. However I’m happy to confirm I’m really glad people asked for more and I’m really pleased with what I’ve ended up with!

Now, I finally bring you the third and final book in the series. Would I like to write more of these characters? The answer is yes. Will I? No. Absolutely not. I have to leave it where it is now. The story is wrapped up and that’s that. I might write extra scenes, release deleted scenes, but the story ends in Unleash. These characters can only live on in readers now. So it’s with sadness I say goodbye, it’s with happiness and anticipation I let the books fly free.

BLURB:

Have you ever fallen for the wrong person – knowing they’re not the one for you?

For Kayla Tate, pain and disappointment are all she has ever known when it comes to love. Is it that she never learned from her mistakes? Or is there a ghost from her past she’s yet to lay to rest?

Kayla embarks on a journey during which harsh lessons will be learned and relationships will be tested. It seems to centre around the Sub Rosa mystery, but where will she begin to unpick the threads? All she knows is that something doesn’t add up . . .

Kayla’s heartbreaking story is about lifelong friendships, taking chances and finding that one person who’s willing to risk it all with you – at exactly the right time.

UNLEASH2

Unleash is a story about love though it does answer a lot of questions left unanswered regarding the Sub Rosa secrets. I wanted to write a perfect love which has the most imperfect beginning and not only is it a perfect love, it’s a perfect love between two hugely flawed characters. It’s about how people in real life come to the BDSM lifestyle and how the lifestyle can be abused but also, how BDSM can change the lives of people and bring them closer than they ever imagined possible.

And, that’s that.

♡♡Enjoy!♡♡

Some more new reviews…

The Sub Rosa Trilogy is one you’ll start and not be able to turn your back on, if the reviews and messages I’ve had from readers so far are anything to go by! It’s only a couple of days now until I reveal the cover for the third book, UNLEASH, and so it’s a good time to start getting stuck into the series with the first book UNBIND. ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

ONLY today I received this review of UNFURL and this bit of the review pretty much sums up what the series has in store:-

Finding not truths, but in fact more layers of lies, Chloe and Cai weave through a complex story of shame, guilt, abuse and love that seems to visit all hidden facets of human behaviour. With gangsters and art, deaths and secrets, revelations and love, Unfurl truly is a masterpiece from Sarah Michelle Lynch. One to be damned proud of!

An alternative name for this book though that came to mind was UNLOCK, for when the petals of this story do unfurl, complete with UNBIND, the doors of this thrilling piece unlock. You can almost hear the key scrape as it turns, and the characters follow its course to the inevitable yet captivating conclusion.

In short. Yes! I loved it!

Reaching 100,000 Words and Knowing…

…you now have another novel. That recently happened for me. It’s a point where you feel achievement, also a point where you know there’s much more work to do!

Often the story of creation is a story in itself, one you feel loathe to tell, but might be just as important as the work you’re creating.

A lot of my books centre on psychology and it’s something I have always been fascinated by. The human mind and its strengths, weaknesses and possibilities are why we write after all. I’ve found with my recent books, 100K is around about the stage I find myself with a first draft. In the first draft I’ve told myself the story, and now instead of telling it, I need to build upon what I’ve already established and embellish the events that make sense of the mystery. It is time to slow it down and explode the smells, sights, feelings, thoughts and dialogue… et al. So in other words, I need to ensure the reader can see exactly what I see.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????When I was writing UNBIND, the prequel to the novel I’m currently writing, I didn’t want to put a label on the complex psychology of one person in that novel. I still don’t. We all know mental illness is a complex thing, a grey area, and I consciously created a character you can’t put into one box or another. Going forward into the sequel, I had a job on my hands to keep away from that box and still not put this particular person into one category or another.

So when you’ve written about difficult topics in the past (i.e. issues of the mind), you feel like you have to find different ways of exploring those avenues…

I probably would have made myself ill in trying to keep UNBIND at just the one book. I know that sounds freaking crazy!! There was too much story and what I took out of UNBIND, I did purposely, so I could write a whole other story in UNFURL. No way is the sequel a retelling of the first book or a rehash. It’s not the same book, it’s got its own plot, yet some bits elevate and expand upon UNBIND. As an author, it is the hardest thing to know your characters and to try to write their stories without ruining the suspense.

UNFURL came to me so thick and fast and when I read it through last week, I felt the arrangement set into place inside my mind and I knew after that… I knew what I had left to do.

Yet still, the mysterious character I’ve alluded to in this blog is more than just a victim. She’s so much more. She’s an enigma, a mystery that will never be solved. She’s an artist and what I hope I am doing with UNFURL is showing how and why we use art. Why, even, we need art, and what it evokes in our souls.

Cai, our hero, is a dual artist – a photographer and a painter. He has the same gifts his mother mastered – and more. The purpose of Cai’s point of view in UNFURL is to explore that struggle we share, as artists, during the process of creation. A pain that is necessary to produce something that actually speaks to other people.

Instead of focusing on the label, then, I tried to focus on the confusion and mindset of a person who refuses to be misunderstood or even, understood. There isn’t even a middle ground. There is an unrealistic place where things make sense and another place, a worldly place, where nothing makes sense. Basically, there’s an artist who had her talent ripped from her… and her ability to create was tainted. Imagine if you’re born to create, and you just can’t. The reasons are hard to bear, but must be.

I wrote about life as art in another blog and I’m trying to follow through on that with UNFURL, a book that doesn’t play by the rules but when knotted to UNBIND, side by side, makes sense and yet, whether an injustice can be ever be truly resolved, we may never know…

As a writer, you know, anything can happen during the editing process. It’s a miraculous, thing, editing. Maybe like Rorschach in Watchmen, whose mood changes constantly, whose mask expresses him better than his own face, a writer can keep trying to paint the truth but only the reader can give the book its truth. So like an artist trying to paint a picture, I’m trying to use the tools (words) at my fingertips to explain what creation feels like, to explain why creatives need creation and what could happen if someone born to create had that ability tragically stolen from them.

Perhaps that’s why a novel is a novel and why sometimes, you can write all those words, only for one truth to come out of all of it.

It’s a work in progress… for sure!

(Hopefully this was an annoyingly spoiler-free preview)!

AS A PRESENT TO MYSELF, I released this boxed set of my sci-fi quadrilogy just a couple of days ago… and I don’t know how, but it has already sold in two very separate corners of the globe! I LOVE READERS!!

As a special incentive to get you to read this… please take a look at the introduction below I added at the beginning of this series of books, which will always be very special to me! No books will ever equal these because they were my first.

***

Introduction to the Quadrilogy

How might an obscure Yorkshire woman get you to invest hours of your time in a series spanning more than 400,000 words? More than four continents? More than four decades? Multiple genres including romance, thriller, sci-fi and dystopia… I don’t know…!

In all honesty all I can do is to tell you what it means to me to have achieved such a series as this. I can tell you it began with a dream when I was twenty-six years old. I’m now thirty-one so you can get some picture of just how far this journey has taken me! I had this dream… and in it I saw a couple who were clearly meant to be. Yet something was stopping them being together. In the periphery of this dream I saw clearly an outer context and an elderly woman intent on bringing this pair together.

Many months passed as my brain put a bridal shop together with this theory of a future world in which hope is lost, people gave up on reproduction ‒ plus some conglomeration obsessed with scientific progression is at the core. It was maternity leave that finally gave me chance to pursue something I have loved since a very small age ‒ writing! I continually remind myself that not many people get a chance like I did to explore something I feel so passionate about. We live in a busy, busy world and I am grateful every day, that I did this. That I never gave up even when I could have done, so many times. It was mentally difficult to accomplish this series ‒ soul-searching, wringing wet tissues, doubts, fears ‒ those were the worst moments. How many ideas do people have but never follow through with? I only think it was my blind stubbornness or fate that eventually got this thing through to completion. Perhaps it was the never-ending faith my husband had in me ‒ the almighty push onwards he gave me after I jumped over every hurdle. He never gave up encouraging me.

What undoubtedly makes these books what they are and may surprise you are the characters, which took me on their journey, sweeping me along for the ride. They exploded from my mind so quickly, spilling their stories page after page. I couldn’t keep up with them sometimes, it was an immense adventure-a-minute trying to!

When I think of writing this series, I will recall nappy changes, sleepless nights, late-night talks with my husband about plots, characters, possibilities… always endless possibilities. I will recall music that kept me going throughout writing sessions. When I hear certain tracks on the radio I say to myself, “That is a Ryken and Seraph song.” Or, you know… (no spoilers here…)!

This is truly a series that I could keep writing forever, and ever, and ever. Who knows? I might yet write more futuristic novels. There is certainly the scope to do so. I could keep doing this and fundamentally, the reason is that I truly love it. I didn’t write this series with any expectation, any kind of plan, except to just write what I wanted to ‒ and I did.

Peace out.

If you enjoyed The Hunger Games, Divergent, perhaps even Utopia, this might be a series for you! This is a futuristic world and the premise is the world is 40 years clear of pandemic – but a conglomeration which took advantage of the devastation is still in charge… and guess what… they had something to do with the virus escaping!

This is a series of sex, lies, deceit, family, conspiracy, action, chase, adventure, love, strong characters, villains and assassins! It’s a series I’m in love with – I hope you check it out!

ONE REVIEWER SAID:

***THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***

This book… I need a moment to think. There was so much going on here. Not in a bad way even … but holy crap balls.

The main character, Seraph, is awesome. Even with all this crap thrown at her, she doesn’t let it control her. I could take some lessons from this woman!

When the guy (not sure if saying his name is a spoiler, so I’m leaving it out) first showed up, I wasn’t sure about how I felt about him. I didn’t want to read a story with some romance that changes the story from awesome action to sex all the time. It was done quite well.

Then there was Camille – she’s not what I was expecting either. I think this book was the most times I was thrown off by an author.

When it got to the end, I may have screamed some obscenities out loud. Multiple times. I look forward to seeing what happens in The Informant.

OUT NOW… the Operator

Who is the OPERATOR? You can find out more by clicking here

THE OPERATOR, UNITY VOL.3, is the third of four parts. The series is most effective read in sequence but for those who are more familiar with my erotic works, THE OPERATOR, may be more for you. It contains as much suspense, twists and turns as the other UNITY books but there is a slower feel to this instalment, a bridge between the action and thrills of the other books, and the dark, frightening conclusion that is THE SENTIENT.

EXCERPT FROM THE SENTIENT…UNITY VOL.4

the sentient

It’s blackout and the streets are empty but I am running about like it’s the old days, a gun in each hand. Silencers on. I’m without any armor but we don’t use any. We’re invincible; that’s what we have been taught. I feel unnaturally strong and alert, aware. Yet deadened, somewhat. My lack of concern stems from some source I can’t quite put my finger on. It’s filling my veins with an erratic pulse of blood, potent with the need to move and perform. Meanwhile my thoughts are foggy but I am seeing things with clarity, if that’s possible. It’s as though I have been trained to not think, but still see. And see, I do.

I watch while a pair of nonentities scurry into a sewer. They’re no concern. They look like they could barely rub a penny together, if pennies were still in existence. Rats fill gutters at this time; it’s like they have evolved to know when humans are inside, and they can come out. They know the dark means safety. In what world do we live in, when the dark is more attractive than the light?

I am running still, the exertion nothing to me. My body was highly strung before they got hold of me, before they placed me in their program and made me their weapon.

I know my destination and what I’ll do when I get there but my thoughts have been dulled, like I said, and I can’t quite reconcile the meaning of this mission. Its priority doesn’t make sense to me, not in the back of my mind. I am just following orders.

Having made it to the building in question (my destination) I stow my guns away. I didn’t encounter any adversaries on the way which is strange. Usually there are a few dissidents out at this time of night, in wait, ready to take someone like me down. They know emissaries, oh, they recognize us. We’re the only ones without fear, without armor. We carry weapons and identities nobody else can get.

At street level, I take out my Clever-Grips and strap them on. I climb to the eighth floor and slide inside an open window. There in the apartment, I find a terrible scene waiting for me; a man beaten almost to death, laid sprawled on the carpeted floor; furniture tossed around and glass broken. I’m not sure what to do but thoughts that were suppressed come to the fore.

I see three others like me and they are stood over the target, who’s in a mess. The man’s wild eyes are darting though he can’t move his body. My eye registers several broken bones, wounds that won’t heal and the shock on his face when he sees it’s me. His eyes briefly dart to a photograph on a desk near the window and I see a woman’s face. I realize she may be in the room, or she may be on her way, or he may be trying to tell me she’s why he’s let them do this. She got away while he fought. I don’t know for sure but I see in his eyes, he only cares she’s safe. He is at peace to some extent. He is begging me to save him from more pain, and without thought, I hold out my weapon and shoot.

He’s not hurting, anymore. I know that.

The others register the kill and one of them mumbles into his radio, ‘Target down.’

Just like that.

My colleagues don’t rebuke me for ending a life before we got chance to interrogate him first. Neither do they bring it up that we could have shown him his own entrails – some of Officium’s dogs have done that before, for fun.

Killing is our business. So they don’t seem too unhappy. He’s dead, so what? I see that thought in their murky expressions.

We all pile out of the apartment together, heading for the stairs down.

I stand between these other men who bear no remorse, no emotion.

None of us speak. We’re all piles of meat employed to kill and perform.

Yet I know.

One thing, I know.

I am still sentient, to some extent.

In fact, I may the only sentient one amongst them.

Prologue for THE OPERATOR, UNITY VOL.3

This book has been the undoing of me, I have to tell you that. Anyways, here’s a snippet you might like…

This is from the third book in the UNITY series and you can purchase the first two by visiting unitynovels.com

The following is unedited, subject to change etc, but I can tell you this book is the best thing I’ve written yet…

So here we are…

PROLOGUE

When you grow up being told that people are either good or evil, you don’t ever know any different. You can’t distinguish any middle ground. You are told most are evil, though you don’t really know what evil is until evil does. A childhood knowing only that people are to be mistrusted ‒ it stays with you forever and ever. Eighty-odd years of life didn’t convince me that I will ever get over what happened to me both then, and afterwards. What I learned over time, however, was that people and their individuality make everything better, more wholesome. Lots of people along the way smoothed out my rough edges and wore away at my hard shell.

I used to think it was enough to take succor from small things. Perhaps that was my way of coping. Beach walks, strolling around markets, a street stall jacket potato still in its foil wrapper and a plastic fork… those things still seem pretty great, even though I can’t have any of them, not anymore. That is not the world in which we live now.

I used to look at other people and envy them their ignorance, their naivety, their carefree ways. I’d assess them within a heartbeat and know everything about them and their needs, their desires. The stressed-out girl on a delicatessen was only concerned with getting out of there so she could spend her pennies at the local pub with her scruffy boyfriend. The man power-walking the streets with fury was only doing so because his wife wouldn’t put out and he had no other way of sweating off some steam. That paper boy who never spoke… that businesswoman who wore gray suits with such swagger that she convinced herself we didn’t all know it was just High Street clobber and not designer, not at all. That bus driver who always gave me the eye and complained when I didn’t have the right change. All those people, those beautiful people, made the pattern of what was once our world.

Oh we all see the outsides of people. We see the outlines of shapes and images, but do we see their essence, their souls? Their real story? Everyone has a story so they say. Some are possibly better left unsaid.

When you get to the end of my tale, you might wish you’d never heard my story. Sometimes I wished I’d never heard my story. However, it is what made me, me. What shaped me and formed me into the person I became.

Somebody made me realize that surviving wasn’t enough. This person challenged me. Really changed me. Whatever you believe about love, I might show you otherwise. Whatever you think love is, I may prove to the contrary.

You know the basics… now to get to the grit of this tale of UNITY.

You know who I am…

I am the Operator.
